CVE-2021-40422Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated root access via predictable device password

Published Apr 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Authentication bypass in Swift Sensors Gateway SG3-1010 allows remote attackers to gain root access through its default SSH service. The device derives the pi account password from its eight-character Gateway ID using a fixed substitution-and-encoding process, AES, and Base64. Network access to SSH plus knowledge or discovery of the printed ID permits login and passwordless sudo to root.
