Motion-detection tampering via default API permission
Published Jan 28, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper access control in Reolink RLC-410W 3.0.0.136_20121102 allows remote authenticated users to alter motion detection settings. The cgiserver.cgi cgi_check_ability function lacks a SetMdAlarm case, so its default branch assigns permission value 7 and authorizes the request. Any logged-in non-admin can change detection sensitivity by hour and exclude camera regions, undermining motion-event monitoring.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
