Local root code execution via unrestricted target file
Published Nov 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Code injection in Spacewalk 2.10 and Uyuni spacewalk-admin before 4.3.2-1 allows local users with tomcat access to execute code as root. The rhn-config-satellite.pl script accepts an arbitrary --target path and appends the supplied --option value to that root-owned file without restricting the destination. Exploitation requires control of the tomcat account and its passwordless sudo rule; privileged execution occurs when a higher-privileged user or process later reads the modified file.
