Denial of service via unchecked palette pointer
Published Aug 22, 2023 · Updated Oct 3, 2024
Null pointer dereference in FreeImage before 1.18.0 allows remote attackers to crash applications that process a crafted TIFF image. ReadPalette writes through a palette pointer returned by FreeImage_GetPalette without checking whether crafted bits-per-sample and samples-per-pixel values caused it to be null. Processing the file, including through user interaction, triggers an access violation that interrupts the consuming application without reported data disclosure or modification.
