Application crash via uninitialized pointer free
Published Aug 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
An invalid free in Rizin 0.3.1 and earlier allows local users to crash the application by analyzing a crafted HPPA ELF64 file. In rz_core_analysis_type_match, a goto reaches cleanup before retctx.ret_reg is initialized, so free receives an indeterminate stack value. A user must direct Rizin to perform full analysis of the malicious file; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
