Device reload via Snort ICMP memory leak
Published Oct 27, 2021 · Updated Nov 7, 2024
Resource exhaustion in Cisco Firepower Threat Defense Software allows remote attackers to reboot affected devices using ICMP traffic. The Snort detection engine improperly retains memory resources while processing a series of ICMP packets forwarded through the device. No authentication or user interaction is required, but exploitation requires repeated packets and results in a reload rather than data access or modification.
