Root code execution via undersized Screen Saver request
Published Dec 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in X.Org Server before 21.1.2 and before 1.20.14 allows local users to execute code as root via a crafted request. SProcScreenSaverSuspend fails to validate the length of a byte-swapped Screen Saver Suspend request before accessing its allocated request buffer. Exploitation requires the ability to run low-privileged code locally and can compromise the display server process with root privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
