Local privilege escalation via unpinned GPU memory reuse
Published Aug 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Use-after-free in Android SoC PowerVR GPU drivers allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through unprivileged GPU calls. After an app unpins allocated memory, the driver leaves the freed page reachable and accepts it in later GPU operations. Any unprivileged app on an affected PowerVR-based device can trigger the stale-page access, enabling local privilege escalation through kernel memory corruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
