Local app discovery via AudioService response discrepancy
Published Mar 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 12L AudioService allows local users to identify installed apps through audio APIs. AudioService passes a caller-supplied package name and UID to AppOpsManager.noteOp in volume and mute methods without safely handling the distinct validation exceptions. A malicious app needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction and can use the resulting discrepancy to bypass package-query visibility restrictions.
