Installed-app disclosure via package-query side channel
Published Mar 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 12L DevicePolicyManager allows local users to learn whether an app is installed without query permission. DevicePolicyManager exposes an observable difference between installed and absent packages instead of enforcing the caller's package-query visibility. A low-privileged local app needs no user interaction or additional execution privileges, and the disclosed impact is limited to learning app presence.
