Privilege escalation via unobscured provisioning overlays
Published Mar 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Tapjacking in Android 10 through 12 allows local users to create a work profile without consent through a deceptive overlay. SetupLayoutActivity.onCreate leaves provisioning windows visible beneath non-system overlays, so obscured prompts accept user taps as consent. Exploitation requires a local app able to draw an overlay and user interaction; the result is unauthorized work-profile provisioning.
