Local media collection access via prefix URI grant
Published Feb 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Missing authorization in Android 11 and 12 MediaProvider allows local users to read and write every file in a media collection. checkUriPermission treats a prefix URI grant for one file as authorization for the collection URI, extending access across that collection. Exploitation requires a local app with user-level execution and access to one file; no user interaction is required, and the app gains collection-wide read and write access.
