Process crash via null pointer dereference
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in swf_DumpABC in swftools through 20200710 allows local users to crash swfdump with a crafted SWF file. While dumping ActionScript bytecode, swf_DumpABC in as3/abc.c dereferences a null address reached from malformed file content, terminating the process. The file must be processed by swfdump with ABC dumping enabled; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash, not code execution or data access.
