Process crash via pool_lookup_string2 null dereference
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in SWFTools through 20200710 allows local users to crash swfdump by processing a crafted SWF file. While swfdump parses ActionScript 3 bytecode, swf_ReadABC reaches pool_lookup_string2, which dereferences a null pointer at pool.c:1043. A user must cause swfdump to process the file; the observed consequence is a process abort, not system-wide service interruption.
