Code execution via out-of-bounds strlen scan
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in SWFTools through 20200710 allows local users to execute code by opening a crafted SWF file. In swf_GetPlaceObject() in modules/swfobject.c, strlen() reads beyond a five-byte heap allocation while parsing the supplied file. A user must process the file with swfdump; the published reproducer demonstrates an abort, while the CVE record states code execution.
