Code execution via OpAdvance out-of-bounds read
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in SWFTools through 20200710 allows attackers to execute code by inducing processing of a crafted SWF file. The demonstrated path invokes strlen in OpAdvance on action data whose four-byte heap region is read out of bounds. Triggering requires a user to run swfdump with action dumping enabled on the supplied SWF; the published impact is code execution, while the demonstrated result is an AddressSanitizer abort.
