Code execution via out-of-bounds action-data read
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Heap-buffer overflow in SWFTools through 20200710 allows local users to execute code by processing a crafted SWF file. In swf_DumpActions in lib/modules/swfaction.c, the action-dump path reads one byte beyond a 44-byte heap allocation while parsing crafted action data. The target must process the file with swfdump's -D option; the public report demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort, while the CNA attributes code execution.
