Process crash via recursive PDF object parsing
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in SWFTools through 20200710 allows local users to crash pdf2swf by processing a crafted PDF file. The upstream trace shows recursive XRef::fetch and Parser::makeStream calls reaching Lexer::Lexer until stack exhaustion produces a segmentation fault. Local processing of the file is required; the demonstrated consequence is pdf2swf termination, with no reported confidentiality or integrity impact.
