Code execution via AnalyzePages stack overflow
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stack buffer overflow in pdftools through 20200714 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code via a crafted PDF file. Analyze::AnalyzePages() in analyze.cpp writes beyond a fixed-size stack buffer while processing attacker-controlled PDF page data. Exploitation requires a user to open or process the malicious file, after which code runs with the pdftools process's privileges.
