Application crash via missing reconstruction source data
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in libjpeg 2020021 and earlier allows attackers to crash applications that decode a crafted JPEG image. The reconstruction path proceeds without required source data and dereferences a NULL pointer in BlockBitmapRequester::ReconstructUnsampled(). The target application must process the attacker-supplied image; the demonstrated command-line decoder terminates with a segmentation fault.
