HTTPS response disclosure via disabled certificate validation
Published Aug 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper certificate validation in GNOME grilo 0.3.13 and earlier allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read HTTPS response data. The grl-net-wc.c HTTP client creates deprecated SoupSessionAsync objects without enabling the system CA file, so server certificates are not validated. Exploitation requires control of the network path to an HTTPS resource fetched through grilo; the established impact is disclosure of fetched content.
