Barcode-processing crash via final-character over-read
Published Aug 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Zint Barcode Generator before 2.10.0 allows context-dependent attackers to crash barcode processing with crafted Code One data. The is_last_single_ascii function checks that its cursor is at the final character but then reads the next byte, passing an out-of-range value into rs_encode_uint. A victim application must process attacker-controlled Code One input; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort, with no proven data write.
