Deserialization in XStream 1.4.17 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code through a crafted input stream. During unmarshalling, XStream trusts serialized type metadata, instantiates attacker-selected JDK classes, and triggers a ProxyLazyValue JNDI lookup that loads code from an attacker-controlled LDAP server. Reachability requires an application to unmarshal attacker-controlled data with XStream's default blacklist rather than a minimal type whitelist, after which code runs in the hosting process.
