CVE-2021-38672

Guest-to-host code execution via Hyper-V

Published Oct 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Remote code execution in Microsoft Windows Hyper-V on affected Windows 11 21H2 and Server 2022 builds allows remote authenticated users to execute code on the host via crafted guest-to-host packets. The flaw is in Hyper-V packet handling between a guest virtual machine and its host, but Microsoft has not publicly disclosed the precise vulnerable component or operation. Exploitation requires low-privilege code execution inside a guest and adjacent-network reachability to the host; successful exploitation can compromise host confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
