CVE-2021-38452Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Unauthenticated arbitrary file read via unsanitized tmp route

Published Oct 12, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Path traversal in Moxa MXview 3.x through 3.2.2 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary Windows files through its web interface. The unauthenticated /tmp route in ResourceRoutes accepts a user-controlled filename without the sanitize-filename check used by other routes, so encoded traversal sequences escape the intended directory. No account is required, and exposed files include clear-text configuration secrets; Moxa and CISA separately characterize the flaw as allowing critical files to be created or overwritten.
