Unauthenticated service interruption via ANSI-stripping regex
Published Sep 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in Coder code-server before 3.12.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt the service with crafted input. The onLine helper in src/node/util.ts applies an overlapping, nested-quantifier ANSI-escape pattern to child-process output, causing excessive backtracking on adversarial text. No authentication or user interaction is required; the documented impact is limited to availability, while public records do not identify the request path that supplies the crafted text.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
