Denial of service via overflowing convolution sums
Published Sep 20, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Integer overflow in FFmpeg 4.2.1's Prewitt video filter allows remote attackers to cause denial of service through attacker-controlled media. The Prewitt routines store convolution sums as signed integers and square them before sqrtf, allowing high-bit-depth sample values to exceed the signed integer range. Exploitation requires the target to process the supplied media with the Prewitt filter; denial of service is reported, while any additional impact remains unspecified.
