Script execution via unfiltered note form elements
Published Aug 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Joplin before 2.0.9 allows context-dependent attackers to execute script when a crafted note is viewed. The HtmlUtils note-body filter omits button, form, input, select, textarea, option, and optgroup from its disallowed-tag list, so interactive HTML reaches the renderer. Viewing an attacker-controlled note is required, and the published assessment limits the resulting impact to reading or modifying data exposed to the renderer.
