CVE-2021-37748Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root code execution via manage_if overflow

Published Oct 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Buffer overflow in Grandstream HT801 before 1.0.29 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code as root via the limited configuration shell. The /sbin/gs_config shell copies the manage_if configuration value into a fixed stack buffer without adequate bounds checking, allowing crafted input to escape shell restrictions and redirect control flow. Access requires authentication to the device's SSH or Telnet configuration interface; weak default credentials can enable that access, after which the attacker gains complete root control.
