Arbitrary file overwrite via normalized-path cache collision

Path traversal in npm node-tar allows attackers to overwrite arbitrary files outside the extraction directory using a crafted archive. The directory cache compares unnormalized path strings, so Unicode-equivalent names and Windows 8.3 aliases let a symlink replace a cached directory without triggering the symlink guard. The consuming application must extract attacker-controlled content; affected ranges are before 4.4.18, 5.0.0 through 5.0.9, and 6.0.0 through 6.1.8, and overwritten code can execute with that application's privileges.
