Process crash via nonterminating JP2 write loop
Published Aug 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Exiv2 0.27.4 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to crash the process via a crafted JP2 image. In Jp2Image::encodeJp2Header, an OR-based loop condition keeps iterating after bWroteColor becomes true, driving reads beyond the intended buffer. Exploitation requires a victim to process the crafted file during a metadata-write operation such as insert; the documented consequence is a process crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
