Proximal privilege escalation via incorrect bounds check
Published Dec 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek 1905 daemon 2.0.2 allows physically proximate attackers to escalate privileges through IEEE 1905 traffic. The daemon applies an incorrect bounds check before writing data derived from IEEE 1905 messages, allowing the write to exceed its intended buffer. Exploitation requires Wi-Fi EasyMesh R2 and user interaction; no additional execution privileges are needed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
