Remote privilege escalation via 1905 bounds check
Published Dec 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek 1905 daemon version 2.0.2 allows remote attackers to gain privileges through IEEE 1905 traffic. The daemon performs an incorrect bounds check while processing IEEE 1905 protocol data, permitting a write beyond the intended memory region. Exploitation requires a proximal attacker, Wi-Fi EasyMesh R2 use, and user interaction; the resulting impact is privilege escalation with possible confidentiality, integrity, and availability consequences.
