Proximal privilege escalation via unchecked WPS input
Published Dec 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek Wi-Fi driver 7.4.0.0 allows physically proximate attackers to escalate privileges through WPS. The driver processes WPS input without a required bounds check and writes beyond the intended buffer. WPS must be in use and user interaction is required; MediaTek does not disclose the resulting privilege level or whether code execution follows.
