Privilege escalation via unchecked WPS data write
Published Dec 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek Wi-Fi driver 7.4.0.0 allows physically proximate attackers to escalate privileges through WPS. The driver processes WPS data without a required bounds check, allowing a write outside the intended buffer. Exploitation requires WPS use and user interaction but no prior execution privileges; successful exploitation elevates privileges on the device.
