Sensitive data disclosure after factory reset

Information disclosure in Amazon Echo Dot devices through 2021-07-02 allows attackers with physical access to obtain sensitive data after factory reset. Factory reset does not reliably erase residual flash-storage records, which can be recovered through chip-off hardware access and forensic software techniques. The attack requires possession of the reset device and specialized equipment; reported consequences are exposure of Wi-Fi credentials, owner location, and connected-device information without demonstrated modification or service interruption.
