SYSTEM privilege escalation via replaceable database service binary
Published Oct 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect default permissions in Gestionale Open 11.00.00 allow local users to gain SYSTEM privileges by replacing mysqld.exe. The installation grants Authenticated Users modify access to C:\Gestionale_Open, allowing the DB_GO service binary at MySQL57\bin\mysqld.exe to be overwritten. The replacement executes as LocalSystem when the auto-start database service runs after a computer restart, granting control of the Windows host.
