Information disclosure via MODFEM out-of-bounds read
Published Sep 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Siemens Simcenter Femap V2020.2 and V2021.1 allows attackers to disclose process memory via a crafted MODFEM file. The femap.exe parser reads past an allocated buffer because supplied MODFEM fields receive insufficient bounds validation. Exploitation requires a user to open the malicious file, and the demonstrated consequence is information disclosure in the current process context.
