Media metadata tampering via unprotected REST endpoint
Published Oct 4, 2021 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Cross-site request forgery in Meow Apps Media File Renamer 5.1.9 and earlier allows remote attackers to alter media metadata. The update_media REST endpoint accepts post_title, filename, and lock changes under an administrator's session without a CSRF defense. A logged-in administrator must visit attacker-controlled content; WPScan reports that its cross-origin JSON proof of concept did not send cookies, so practical browser exploitation was not reproduced.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
