CVE-2021-3680Network attack vector

Credential cracking via fixed password-hashing salt

Published Aug 4, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Weak password hashing in ShowDoc 2.9.7 and earlier allows attackers with database access to crack user passwords offline. The UserModel register, updatePwd, and checkLogin methods hash every password with nested MD5 operations and the same hardcoded salt. Exploitation requires access to stored password hashes, and successful cracking exposes reusable account credentials without directly changing data.
