Cross-site scripting via evaluated cookie value
Published Mar 6, 2023 · Updated Mar 7, 2025
Cross-site scripting in DataTables 1.9.2 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted browser cookie. The _fnCreateCookie function searches document.cookie using untrusted sBaseName, decodes the matching cookie value, and passes it to eval instead of parsing it as data. Reachability requires a site to expose sBaseName and a victim's browser to hold an attacker-controlled matching cookie, enabling script execution in the page's origin.
