Root code execution via unsafe package deserialization
Published Jul 11, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Insecure deserialization in Druva inSync Client before 7.0.0 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with root privileges on Windows and macOS. The inSyncPackage.py load method passes an attacker-supplied upgrade-package header to Pickle.loads before the package signature establishes trust. User-level local access is required to redirect the upgrade source and supply a malicious package, after which the root-running upgrade path executes attacker-controlled code.
