Browser script execution via unescaped nickname rendering
Published Jul 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in engineercms 1.03 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript in another user's browser via a nickname. The nickname update endpoint accepts an HTML event-handler payload, and the user list page renders the stored value without escaping. An attacker must log in, save the crafted nickname, and induce another user to view the list; execution is limited to that viewer's browser context.
