Browser hang via catastrophic email HTML regex
Published Jul 16, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Inefficient regex processing in Chatwoot 1.11.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to hang an agent's browser via crafted email HTML. The stripStyleCharacters function applies globally repeated, ambiguous style-tag expressions to untrusted incoming email content, enabling catastrophic backtracking. A sender needs only a route into a configured email inbox; processing the conversation can monopolize browser execution and interrupt the agent interface.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
