Build crash via unchecked ZIP link length
Published Jul 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Resource exhaustion in Apache Ant 1.4 through 1.9.15 and 1.10.0 through 1.10.10 allows local users to crash builds via crafted ZIP archives. AsiExtraField.parseFromLocalFileData trusts a four-byte symbolic-link length in an ASi Unix extra field and allocates that many bytes before checking it against the remaining field data. Exploitation requires a build to read or update an attacker-supplied ZIP-derived archive and interrupts that Ant process when memory is exhausted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=1.4 <Apache Ant*
- Affected versionversion=Apache Ant 1.10.x <=1.10.10
