Local privilege escalation via backup wildcard expansion
Published Sep 28, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Nagios XI before 5.8.5 allows local users to gain elevated privileges through backup_xi.sh wildcards. The backup_xi.sh script expands attacker-controlled wildcard filenames during a privileged backup operation instead of treating them as literal data. Local access and control of filenames matched by the backup are required; Nagios has not disclosed the resulting privilege level.
