Session interception via pregenerated private keys
Published Jul 5, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cleartext private-key storage in Alpine Linux xrdp in Alpine 3.14 and earlier allows remote attackers to read RDP data via man-in-the-middle attacks. The Alpine package distributes pregenerated RSA certificate and private-key material instead of creating unique credentials during installation. An attacker positioned in the network path can use the known key material to impersonate the RDP endpoint and decrypt confidential session traffic.
