Application crash via freed heap read
Published Jul 1, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Use-after-free in Tesseract OCR 5.0.0-alpha-20201231 allows local users to crash applications that process crafted image input. Within one_ell_conflict, strpbrk reads two bytes from released heap memory after the referenced allocation has been freed. Exploitation requires an application to process attacker-controlled OCR input; public OSS-Fuzz evidence demonstrates a memory-safety crash, not controlled code execution.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
