Local privilege escalation via insecure installer temporary file
Published Sep 1, 2021 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Temporary-file permission weakness in Adobe Captivate 11.5.5 and earlier allows local users to escalate privileges through its macOS installer. The installer creates a temporary file in a directory whose permissions allow a local user to plant a malicious replacement at the expected location. Exploitation requires local file placement and a victim to launch the installer; the planted code runs in the current user's context.
