Arbitrary file overwrite via unchecked archive extraction
Published Jun 30, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in TensorFlow through 2.5.0 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files through a crafted archive. The tf.keras.utils.get_file extraction path passes archive members to extractall without verifying that resolved paths remain inside the cache directory. Exploitation requires an application to enable extraction for an attacker-controlled archive, a use that TensorFlow states is unsupported.
